ChatGPT vs Claude: Which AI Tool is Right for Your Business?
Steven
A practical comparison of the two leading AI assistants. We break down the differences that actually matter for business use.

The honest answer: it depends on what you need
Both ChatGPT and Claude are excellent AI assistants. For most business tasks, either will serve you well. But there are some genuine differences worth knowing about.
ChatGPT (by OpenAI)
Best for: General business tasks, creative writing, coding, and when you need internet access for current information.
ChatGPT has been around longer and has a massive user base. The Plus subscription (around £20/month) gives you GPT-4, which is noticeably better than the free version for complex tasks.
Key strengths:
- Can browse the internet for current information
- Huge ecosystem of plugins and integrations
- Better at coding tasks
- More "creative" in its responses
Claude (by Anthropic)
Best for: Long documents, nuanced analysis, and when you want more measured, careful responses.
Claude is newer but has quickly become a favourite for business users. It can handle much longer documents (up to 100,000 words in one go) and tends to give more balanced, thoughtful answers.
Key strengths:
- Handles very long documents brilliantly
- More nuanced, less likely to make things up
- Better at following complex instructions
- Tends to acknowledge uncertainty rather than bluffing
For business use, both offer secure options
Both OpenAI and Anthropic offer business tiers where your data isn't used for training. This is essential if you're working with sensitive information.
- ChatGPT Team: Around £20/user/month
- Claude Team: Around £24/user/month
Security goes deeper than just plan choice. We cover the full picture — what's safe to feed in, what to anonymise, GDPR considerations — in our companion piece on whether it's safe to use AI with business data.
Our recommendation
Try both. Most businesses we work with end up using ChatGPT for quick tasks and Claude for longer, more complex work. The good news is you don't have to choose just one.
What matters more than which tool you pick is learning to use it well. A skilled user with either tool will outperform someone who picked the "best" one but never learned the basics. That's a big part of what we do in our Foundations, Integration and Transformation tiers — helping teams pick and embed the right tool, then get fluent at using it.
